Description for B&B:
Around 1850, Jules Romain Alexandre Cloud, a carpenter, purchased a dilapidated cider press in the village of Saint-Siméon. In a clever construction, he built a cement spillway with vanes and a short canal at the convergence of the Presles and Piétré streams. This allowed water to flow to the wheel of his sawmill, which he positioned perpendicular to the cider press. The structure of the mill is quite unique, featuring twisted, vaulted, and knotty beams that Cloud wouldn't typically use for his customers. Later on, he added his own house to the property. In 1955, an antique dealer and fresco teacher acquired the "Moulin de Mizande" property. With great care, he restored the circular trough, the wooden mechanism, the millstone of the crusher, and the large gear with its box-wood teeth. Additionally, he adorned the place with intricately carved wooden panels, alcoves, fireplaces, and staircases from the 17th century. The name "Moulin de Mizande" originates from a spring in the field, close to the one Sanctus Simeon the Stylite created by striking the earth with his stick when he came to preach in Gaul during the 4th century.
During early April, the surroundings of the mill are adorned with a unique form of anemone (ranunculaides) that can no longer be found elsewhere in the Ile de France region. The Museum National d'Histoire Naturelle has cataloged the plant life on this exceptional site due to this rarity.
The current owner has made various improvements to the property while maintaining the original charm and character. These include the construction of a parking lot, garage, and porch, as well as the restoration of the wheel and vanes, expansion of the stables, renovation of the house's attics, and overall enhancement of household comforts.
At the Moulin de Mizande, we invite our guests to indulge in tranquility, leisure, and a warm welcome amidst the meticulously preserved environment of this truly remarkable place.
