Description for B&B:

Experience the enchantment of a 17th century farm-house nestled in the untouched beauty of the Girona Pyrenees. This hidden gem is a paradise for hiking and mountain-biking enthusiasts, offering breathtaking trails and a serene atmosphere. Surrounded by vast woodlands and peaceful silence, the only light that graces the night sky is the shimmering moon and stars. Perched on a mountain pass, the house treats guests to mesmerizing panoramic views of two valleys. With over 300 sunny days per year, this is truly a haven for nature lovers.

We offer two guest-rooms on the first floor of our beautifully restored home, where we reside, as well as a separate apartment on the ground floor. The larger room boasts a private bathroom and is furnished with a double bed and a double futon sofa-bed. The other room features two single beds. Our guests also have access to a charming dining room with a cozy wood-stove. The apartment delights with a spacious and luminous hall adorned with high vaulted ceilings, an American kitchen, a fireplace, a large dining table, and a comfortable living area with a sofa-bed. Additionally, there is a bedroom with a double bed and a set of bunk beds, a generous bathroom, and a delightful garden terrace complete with stone vaults and a barbecue.

Embracing self-sufficiency, our house is heated by a central fireplace and powered by solar panels. We take pride in producing our own bread, pasta, game sausages, marmalades, and jams using the fruits from our trees and wild berries and nuts. Organic vegetables thrive in our garden, and we raise chickens and ducks. For your dining pleasure, we offer half-board and full-board options, utilizing our organic products as well as those from local farmers to create delectable specialties.

Nestled in the privileged middle-mountain region, situated between 600 and 1,500 meters above sea level, our location offers a stunning vantage point overlooking the radiant Empordà plain that stretches towards the sea. Welcome to Alta Garrotxa, a rugged and solitary middle-mountain paradise that showcases a diverse and captivating landscape. The sunny slopes are adorned with Mediterranean dry forests of holly oaks, oaks, and pine trees, while the shaded areas boast lush humid vegetation of chestnut trees, beeches, and black poplars. Traverse deep ravines with babbling mountain streams, marvel at cascades, and discover alpine meadows, sheer rock walls, and karstic formations. Historically sparsely populated, this region is scattered with remote farm-houses and Romanesque chapels perched in improbable locations. Encounter deer, wild pigs, hares, and foxes more frequently than other human beings in this sanctuary where birdsong fills the silence. No electricity or telephone cables, nor any asphalt, taint the 32,865-hectare expanse. Here, you can escape the stresses of daily life and immerse yourself in the soothing embrace of nature, wander beneath the enchanting shade of the chestnut forest, and relax in a hammock beneath an oak tree. The house is a mere 15-minute drive from the Muga River, which runs along the French-Catalan border, providing a heavenly oasis of crystal-clear icy water in the summer. Autumn invites you to forage for mushrooms, chestnuts, figs, and blackberries, while spring offers wild strawberries, cherries, and asparagus, along with more mushrooms. Winter graces the landscape with a gentle dusting of white under a clear blue sky, without the bitter cold of higher altitudes.

We offer guided hiking tours and horse-back tours that unveil some of the most awe-inspiring vistas in this region, renowned for its rugged terrain and historical significance as the southernmost Christian lands during the 10th to 12th centuries. The network of winding trails attests to its strategic importance for those traversing the Pyrenees on foot. Serious mountain-bikers can explore several marked routes that traverse this remarkable region.

Appréciations pour ClardeBosc, Albanyà:

Can coll
Review by: Claire, Nov 6 2012 3:52PM
