Description for B&B:
Located in the heart of the Dauphiné, in the town of Chirens, is a quaint flour-mill that has been in operation since around 1840, situated on the Cras river. Once owned by the esteemed Richard-Martin family, who possessed a long lineage of millers, this historic mill was painted a charming shade of pink in 1895. The ingenious system in place allows water to flow through a channel and into troughs, causing the wheel to rotate due to the weight of the water. Inside, impressive spur gears connect two sets of grinding wheels - one for corn and the other for wheat. A suspended horizontal axle, attached to the ceiling, powers the vertical grinding wheel. Today, some of the original equipment remains intact, such as the wheat cleaner, troughs elevators, bolters, and the flour mixer. The residential area of the mill has undergone a delightful transformation, now offering guest rooms and a kitchen for those seeking accommodation.Reviews
